Restructuring*

27Nov08

The good news is I still have a job.

The bad news is that after about 9.30 this morning, about 15% of the people I work with can’t say the same. Some of them I’ve barely spoken to. Some of them I would consider friends. Some of them will probably look back on this one day as a great old kick in the pants – and I hope reach that day soon and actually go and do something they enjoy. Others have 30 days to find new jobs or they’re out of the country.

It’s … kind of strange that the relief at the good news was so fleeting, while the shock about the bad just got worse as the day wore on.

And now i just feel like shit.

But like shit with a job … so, you know.

* Something about a global economic downturn? Have you heard about this?

  1. Restructuring is one of my biggest fears, MissE, because I know I’d be among the first to go in my office. Good for you not being among the unlucky 15%.

Yeah, it’s pretty scary. But hey, it’d be a good opportunity for a holiday, right?

    Right?

    No?

    Yeah …

If only the Australian dollar weren’t hovering around third world levels, that might seem feasible.

Oh, and Kevin Rudd, how about thinking of ME in your stupid throw-money-at-the-problem-and-hope-it-goes-away end of year splurge? Old people don’t need money: they need to be isolated and studied so doctors can determine what nutrients they have that may be extracted for our personal use.

But on some level, the financial crisis is a bit exciting. We’ll be able to tell future generations of how we all survived by electing the weakest among us to be routinely sacrificed for the purposes of cannibalism.
