Uncharitable
So, after many annoyed utterances directed at random pilgrims; rant after rant after rant about the evils of the Catholic Church, and how the pope looks like the devil and how ridiculous it is that this stupid World (Catholic) Youth (Week) Day is receiving any public funding whatsoever (because the Catholic church is SO POOR!!); and letting my mind go to totally the wrong place when reading about Stations 5 – ‘Jesus is whipped and crowned’ – and 9 – ‘Jesus is stripped and nailed’… – of the cross, I’m still surprised at the thought that popped into my head when I saw one lonely pilgrim at my bus stop today:
‘If god really loved you, he wouldn’t have made you so bowlegged.’
Yeah, I’m so going to hell – but at least when I get there I’ll be able to test my pope-devil hypothesis. Win!

Hey,
Did you actually irritate pilgrims directly, or did you just mutter under your breath?
I am a little flabbergasted at the sound-bite on this morning’s radio news:
“Wow, it’s so good to be here, and just like, knoew you’re with so many other people who share your faith, it’s totally like awesome”.
Wouldn’t this be just a pretty universal and constant feeling in Christian-dominated Western countries?
I would have thought if Muslims celebrated their togetherness in the same way, the tabloids would be screaming words like “ghetto” and “terrorist cell”.
Totally. A mass gathering of the world’s Muslims in Sydney would be classed as an international incident or something.
I guess it’s just a tribute to the benign, apathetic nature of Catholicism today that its adherents think that you’re set for life as long as you go to church at Christmas and pretend to revere the pope.
GW – it was all under my breath, and possibly expressed with evil looks. There were so many more of them than there were of me and I’m a chicken.
And Jacob – I would totally love to see the reaction if anyone suggested we all rearrange our lives for a week because the worlds Muslim youth were going to pay us a visit …
